Chiropractic Care is More Than an Adjustment

If you see a chiropractor on a regular basis, you should know that the chiropractic manipulation cannot be the last thing they do.

If it is, you get temporary results at best.

If you’re looking for long lasting change, it requires more than an adjustment. And by more, we mean compounding those mobilizations or manipulations with subsequent, strategic training to further the adaptation of the target tissue in mind. If this is not done, lasting change will never occur.

Unfortunately, there are way too many well intentioned physicians providing care without administering the necessary follow up inputs to the musculoskeletal system. Because of this, many patients return to receive the same chiropractic adjustment over and over, and never move past the initial stages of treatment.

My point is, if you want lasting change to occur, it takes work. This consists of providing the tissues and nervous system with the necessary signaling they require for change on a regular basis. Chiropractic adjustments are not a quick fix or “cure all.” They’re important, yes, but they’re only one part of the equation.

Think of it this way…

Chiropractic Treatment - Training = Temporary Change

Chiropractic Treatment + Training = Lasting Change

For example, if we want to make a lasting functional change in a joint, we must improve the capsular space of that joint to allow for more movement to occur. This is done by applying tension with our hands to the joint capsule under load, followed by maximum-effort rotational isometric efforts, which create more space in the joint. We then have the patient actively use the new movement to reinforce that change, or “save the work,” by having them move through the three dimensional space that’s been created.

Unfortunately, there are no shortcuts for improving the body’s capacity for movement. Many things in life require consistent effort over time in order to thrive, and the musculoskeletal system is no exception. I know that can feel daunting, but it doesn’t have to be overwhelming.

My team and I are here to guide you through this process, provide a treatment plan specific to your needs, and lead you in consistent training. If you’d like to learn more about how we can help you achieve lasting change, contact us today.

We’d love to support you!
